Married to Catherine Elizabeth, they had two children, Robert J., and Phillis.
Drove a truck for the Murphy Ward Dairy Company in Chicago in 1920, then employed by Kroehler Manufacturing Company.
He also served Euclid Lodge as Senior Warden in 1928, as Junior Warden in 1927, as Senior Deacon in 1926, and as Senior Steward in 1925.

Former Naperville resident Joseph Niklas, 81, of Bradenton, Fla., died there on Sunday, March 10, 1974.
He is survived by his wife, Catherine; a daughter, Phyllis Dubas of Naperville; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, William of Miles City, Mont.; and a sister, Elizabeth Sehr of Milbury, Ohio. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert.
Mr. Niklas retired as a truck driver for Kroehler Mfg. Co. in 1958, after 36 years of service.
Funeral services will be held today (Thursday), at 9:30 a.m., at SS. Peter and Paul Church. Visitation began after 3 p.m., Wednesday, at Friedrich funeral home.
Burial will be in SS. Peter and Paul cemetery.
