Euclid Lodge Mourns Passing of H. E. Kailer
Euclid Lodge 65 mourns the death of Worshipful Brother Harvey E. Kailer who passed away on Sunday, April 16, 1950. The funeral was held at the Healey funeral chapel, 332 Downer Place, Aurora, Ill., on Tuesday, April 18, at 7:00 p.m.
W/Brother Kailer petitioned our lodge for membership on April 7, 1903; was elected into the lodge on May 5, 1903; initiated on June 9, 1903; passed July 2, 1903; and raised on Feb. 2, 1904.
He was very much interested in Masonry and took an active part. He was elected Master in 1908. By his untiring efforts Euclid Lodge 65 gained new life, he was very thorough in whatever he did, and he was instrumental in educating a number of the members to learn the work as he had learned it. He insisted it should be done accurately, and this idea lingered with him, which he mentioned to some of the brethren that visited him shortly before he passed away. He was the oldest past master of Euclid Lodge.
He joined Euclid Chapter 13 R.A.M. May 3, 1904, and served as High Priest of Euclid Chapter in 1909-1910 and 1911. He was so proficient in the work that other chapters in Chicago and around the district deemed it an honor to have him do the work in their chapters. He was the oldest past high priest of Euclid Chapter at the time he passed on.
Harvey E. Kailer was born in Naperville, Ill., Dec. 25, 1877. He graduated from the west side school and was graduated from the Commercial department of North-Western college, now North Central. Then he went into the clothing business with his father, Fred Kailer. His father later retired, and he was in business with his brother-in-law as Kailer and Brossman.
He was married to Almeda Smith of Aurora and entered into the manufacturing business in Chicago. Some years later he sold his business and moved to Aurora. He passed away April 16 after a long illness.
He leaves to mourn his departure his beloved wife, Almeda, of Aurora, Ill.; three sisters, Emma Messerschmid and Lottie Brossman of Hollywood, Fla., Agnes Sturzinge of Sandusky, Ohio; and three brothers, Arthur E. Kailer of Mound, Minn., Elbert H. Kailer of Downers Grove, and Clarence M. Kailer of Cleveland, Ohio.
