Cheney Moses Castle 1859 & 1871
Born April 11, 1829 in Jericho, Chittenden County, Vermont.
Died February 9, 1909, in Minneapolis, Hennepin County, Minnesota, and was buried in Naperville, Illinois.
At the age of thirteen he was obliged to leave school, but remained in Vermont until 1849 when he moved to Naperville, DuPage County, Illinois, where he resided for several years.
Married Elizabeth Naper, November 24, 1851, Joseph Naper's daughter. They had two children, Mark Cheney and Anna Aurelia. After Elizabeth's death he married Joseph Naper's second daughter, Bertha, October 27, 1870. Following Bertha's death he married Catherine Mitchell Cunningham January 25, 1882.
He was the first Village Clerk of Naperville after its incorporation.
He was elected County Clerk of DuPage County and served as such during the Civil War, 1861-1864, and then he became a member of the firm of Willard Scott & Company, in Naperville, and remained with them until 1872, when he moved to Minnesota, and for many years engaged in business in Minneapolis for the Minneapolis Harvester Works.
Mr. Castle was initiated in Euclid Lodge No.65 A.F. & A.M. May 21, 1858; passed May 28, 1850, and raised June 6, 1850. He served as Senior Warden in 1858 and 1865, Worshipful Master in 1859 and 1871, Secretary in 1861, and 1872, and Senior Steward, 1862 and 1867.
He also served as High Priest of Euclid Chapter No. 13, R.A.M. in 1867, 1868, and 1869.

Cheney Moses Castle, youngest son of Joel and Aurilia Lane Castle, b. Apr. 11, 1829, on the old homestead farm in the town of Jericho, Vt. His school days closed at the age of 14, when he became employed in a country store at Cambridge, Vt. In 1846 he removed to Burlington, Vt., and was employed in a hardware store until 1849, when he removed to Naperville, DuPage Co., Ill., to enter again a country store. He followed this business until 1860, when he was elected clerk of DuPage county. He served as county clerk during the rebellion. At the expiration of his term of office he again entered the mercantile line with Cauking at Naperville, Ill. In 1872 he removed with his family to Minnesota. In 1877 he located at Minneapolis, and for nearly 15 years in that city he was connected with one of the largest manufacturing companies in the Northwest. His position was that of cashier and chief bookkeeper. He has always been actively engaged in business. He married, Nov., 1851, at Naperville, Elizabeth Naper, eldest daughter of Capt. Joseph and Almeda Naper. She died at Naperville, Dec. 8, 1868. Children born to them:
Mark Cheney Castle, b. at Naperville, Dec. 31, 1856. Graduated at the St. Paul High School, 1874, and removed to Jacksonville, Fla., where he married, 1885, Alice Gray. A daughter was born Aug. 2, 1886, Alma Elizabeth. He is bookkeeper in mercantile business.
Anna Aurelia Castle, only daughter of Cheney M. and Elizabeth (Naper) Castle, b. at Naperville, Ill., June 5, 1861. Graduated from Bennett Seminary at Minneapolis, 1880, where for many years she was identified with the public schools of the city. She married, Aug. 10, 1892, D. R. Bishop at Minneapolis, and removed to West Virginia.
Cheney M. Castle married second Bertha M. Naper, dau. of Capt. Joseph and Almeda, Oct. 27, 1870. She died at Minneapolis, July, 1880.
Cheney M. Castle married third Catharine M. Cunningham, dau. of Rev. John W. and Elizabeth S. Cunningham, at Naperville, Ill., Jan. 25, 1882. They are now residing in the city of Minneapolis, 1506 Clinton avenue.

"He was employed at the age of 14 in the country store in Cambridge, Vermont. He moved to Burlington, Vermont in 1846 where he was employed in a hardware store until 1849. Cheney moved to the settlement of Naperville, Illinois where he worked in a country store. He was elected Clerk of DuPage County in 1860 and served as County Clerk during the Civil War. After the war, he moved to Minnesota in 1872, finally to Minneapolis in 1877. He was cashier and chief bookkeeper for one of the largest manufacturing companies in the Northwest. He married Elizabeth Naper in Naperville in November 1851. She was the eldest daughter of Captain Joseph Naper and Almeda Naper. Captain Naper was the founder of Naperville. Cheney and Elizabeth had two children."

Cheney M. Castle
Word was received yesterday of the death of Cheney M. Castle, of Minneapolis, Minn. Mr. Castle was born in Vermont in the year 1829. He moved to Naperville in 1849, and was the first village clerk here and held the office of county clerk of DuPage county during 1861-64. He was then a member of the firm of Willard Scott & Co. until 1872, when he removed to Minneapolis, Minn., and was a resident there at the time of his death.

Naperville
C. M. Castle, formerly a resident of this city, now of Minneapolis, Minn., died at his late home Tuesday morning. The remains were brought here Thursday morning and funeral services were held this afternoon.
