Married Marjorie Garrison, they had two children, David and Mary Ann.
Employed by T.J. Steffes Plumbing and Heating Contractors.
He served Euclid Lodge as Senior Warden in 1937, as Junior Warden in 1936, as Senior Deacon in 1934, and as Junior Deacon in 1933 and 1935.

Bernard J. Steffes, born in Naperville, Mar. 11, 1908, died suddenly of a heart attack on Jan. 8, at Cleveland, Ohio. He was formerly Past Master of Euclid Lodge No. 65, A.F. & A.M., at Naperville.
In addition to his wife, Marjorie, he is survived by one son, David; one daughter, Mary Ann; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Steffes of Naperville, and two brothers, Francis A., of Elgin and Theodore J. of Kalamazoo, Mich.
A Masonic funeral service will be held at Euclid Lodge No. 65 at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon, Jan. 12, from the Arthur R. Beidelman chapel, Naperville, with John R. Hageman as officiating master. Burial will be at Lake Street Memorial Park, Elgin, Ill.
